Monday it is.
How was your weekend? I had a lovely time enjoying a visit from my friend dear friend Rachel, who is my longest creative collaborator—she designed my “band” shirts and posters in high school and continues to inspire me, most recently by designing the art for Niche to Meet You while she’s cultivating her own Substack, Acre. We went downtown Nashville, stayed up late (10:30, late), and even spent a morning at Waffle House.
By wondrous coincidence, I ran into a man I met before Christmas at the WH counter who shared that he played Santa for kids at a school. Now, you know I had to tell him that I have a podcast that explores things JUST LIKE THAT. After a conversation that included tears, laughter, and heart-warming stories about his time answering Santa letters at the Post Office, he’s looking into enrolling in Santa School this October.
Don’t worry, I’ll tell you more about him later.
But, hey, speaking of the podcast (called Niche to Meet You)…Friday brought a new episode, the second in a four-part series about Warhammer 40,000. And yes, it includes MY PLAYING of the thing as we meet folks for whom this hobby has captivated.
I sit down with Marcus and Josh, two enthusiasts deeply involved in the Warhammer 40,000 community, to explore the diverse entry points into 40k. From painting and video games to engaging in intense tabletop battles, we learn about the multifaceted nature of the Warhammer 40,000 experience.
You’ll also meet Robert, our local 40k guide who navigates us through the intricate gameplay mechanics, the fusion of lore and mathematical strategy, and the deep commitment demanded by Warhammer 40,000 enthusiasts, like this guy who left a review on YouTube that could not have been more encouraging…even better than if I asked ChatGPT to cheer me up (do I do this? I’ll let you decide).
This kind of feedback seems to tell me that people are heard in a beautiful way and I feel an immense amount of honor and responsibility.
And, I guess Hammerheads is now official.
